The tree in this painting is a Shag Bark Hickory. It is one of my favorite trees on our property. I was truly imagining Spring because I did this in late winter before any of the greening. I worked on location looking out at the view from our house. I created texture by first treating my paper with a layer of gesso. I then painted over the gessoed surface of the watercolor paper directly with no initial drawing. The framing is a wide silver metal with a generous mat. 19"h x 25"w.
